Gabriella' Boyd died tragically when police were called to a domestic incident involving her knife-wielding mother at the 2 1/2-year-old girl's grandmother's home.

Police found Gabriella injured and when two officers tried to help her, they were stabbed by her mother before an officer shot and injured her.

Details of the nature of the injuries sustained by the child have not yet been released. Officers performed life-saving measures on the toddler upon arrival and immediately called for an ambulance. Gabriella died later that day.

The fundraising effort said Gabriella's family needs help covering expenses for her funeral and would like to start a foundation in name with any money that is left over.

"While our hearts are broken and still mourning, Gabriella's family are having to go through the difficult steps of laying her to rest; both emotionally and financially," the GoFundMe page said. "As anyone can imagine, this tragedy is nothing a parent ever thinks of or plans for."

The group hopes to raise $10,000. So far, a little over $2,000 has been raised.

"This GoFundMe campaign is being established for anyone who is looking for a way to help the Boyd family," the page said.
